Poetry

"Higher"

Prohibited by
the lack
of
still I soar
like a black
dove.
"Wet Eyes"

In the mist
of the sun
all I saw
was darkness
I claimed to have
no fear
but dreaded the feeling
of despair
to much pride
to cry
so instead
I learned.
"Days of Tomorrow"

To ponder life
with conscious thought
to deal with one another
as we ought
to move forward
after studying the past
to eradicate racial prejudice
and distinction of class
to equalize
both large and small
the rich and the poor
that whosoever needs
need no more
to respect life
as the greatest gift
ever given
remembering the Creator gave it
because it's worth living.
"Almost Perfect"

With my radio tuned to sad slow songs
my heart notices
how it longs
so I write
pouring forth my woman
not perfect for neither am I
not super intelligent
never asking why
yet beautiful
in more than sight
a woman of her own
stubborn when right
a woman whose secrets
are ours and ours alone
a woman when absent
I still feel near
even thousands of miles away
I'd feel the touch of her lips
whispering in my ear
a reflection of me and I of her
so gentle are our times
that it passes like a blur
but as each soothing song of love fades
I wonder at this woman
my pen has made
for I've overlooked many of the words
my mind has failed to say
most of all that this woman
I truly crave is capable of loving me
forever and a day.
"In A Flash"

I've sought and I seek
I've been strong and I've been weak
I've been called strange
and beautifully unique
I've been at the peak
of joy
and I've been smashed
by broken promises
as a little boy
so in short
this has been my life
in a flash
would I live it again
some may ask
lets just say I'm thankful
we can't relive
the past.
"Known Anonymously"

I bleed and bleed
knowing not if I'm alive
a man wanting the world
to see and know
who I am
sensing full well
the likes of me
they'll never understand
a father son brother friend
an artist poet
who looks within
above all a man
who just wants
the world to know exactly
who I am.
"Looking Back"

The pain of disappointment
the sorrows of joy
feelings to well known
to this little black boy
my friendship with pain
remains the same
since the days of my youth
I've known the truth
in the presence of misery
I would never see
the joys of joy
engulfing me.
"Torment"

Recognize the reality of pain
that a death row prisoner
must sustain
recognize the rules
and solitary confinement
which now leaves us with no choice
but defiance
recognize the separation
from love ones
while being denied
the basic human touch
recognizing things such as these
should drive the wise
to their knees
as for us who be
we have just one plea
oh please oh please
why me why me.
"Why"

I have no blood
on my hands
I have no thoughts
of revenge
I have no hate
in my heart
for any man
so tell me
why
am I still
damned.
"Write Now"

Intensely to the point
meaning outright
an understandable metaphor
hidden in plain sight
to express unspoken feelings
is why I write
it's how I make the sun
of the day
meet the moon
of the night
and helps the mind
in my head
to have its own
little life.
"Shattered Pieces"

Cynical peace
facade of virture
hidden vices
outwardly nurtured
theives of concise
shatter tranquillity
barren moral
calls to humility
tantalizing visions
manipulating holds
mounting calamities
deaden the soul
human emotion
a labyrinth of lies
abandonment of peace
for blood in the skies
a yearning thought
abstract in nature
innate serenity
begins with creator.
"Discovery"

What would happen
if
they laid me down
to sleep
and then discovered
not me
but
another?
"Radiance"

My eyes reflect the light of my soul

Think of daylight

as the essence of my glow.
"What I Am"

I move like darkness
infinitely through space
my being twinkles
like stars
from the light
I create.

My words blaze
across the galaxies
in forms of molten rock
eternal truths they are
burning the soul
that will never stop.

See
I call forth ideas
greater in stature
than the pyramids in Giza
it is my presence of mind
that lean the tower of Pisa.

I am the student
of knowledge
ambassador of antiquity
the vibration of earthquakes
on land to the unknown
depth of the sea.

I am
the eye in the temple undone
the blackbird
with the wings spread wide
and all the colors
splattered across the sky.

I am the hieroglyphics
that carry on my existence
without the utterance of sound
I am what I am
the vastness in the dark
I am what I am
the voiceless that talks.
"Partner"

A sexy love
that loves sex
what's next
so fly
that she breaks necks
when she walks by
and every eye
in the spot
every heart
would stop
every imagination
runs wild
she's your deepest thoughts
spoken out loud
Mother of your child
best friend
ever present like wind
the beginning
the middle
and the end
She's God's virtue
and the Devil's sin
She's of your rib
the reason you live
the reason your crib
is now a home
the queen who shares
your throne
the Nefertiti
to your King Tut
the first thing you see
when you wake up
She's beauty
regardless of the beholder
lay kisses on her forhead
and her shoulder
just longing to hold her
in my arms forever
and never ever
ever ever
let her
go.
